Booker T. Washington: Was His Program Elitist?

Question: Was Booker T. Washington’s Program for Gaining Social Acceptance for Blacks and Elitist Program???

My answer: I think that gaining social acceptance for black people was not elitist. Booker T. Washington was most definitely a pioneer of this.

Tuskegee Institute had, in my opinion, a good leader in Booker. General Armstrong, his close friend, helped in any way he could. Washington was encouraged to give a speech for social acceptance for blacks. This was not elitist. This was a thirst for equality for blacks. It does transgress into elitist territory when one wants “social acceptance” for one race only, blindly and selfishly pushing aside other races and peoples. A perfect example of this is “Black Lives Matter”. The BLM (as I will abbreviate this organization) demand special treatment because they think they deserve it, and they completely trash other people of other races, especially whites, all “in the search of justice and equality”. This is NOT fair. This is elitist and selfish.

I doubt Washington ever wanted this. He would most likely be horrified to see this.

As long as Washington wanted equal rights for ALL races and not JUST blacks, then no, I do not believe he was being elitist. However, he did not pay enough attention to other races, such as Native Americans, Asians, Hispanics, and even white people. He was so concerned with the welfare of blacks that he, may it be by accident or not, ignored and neglected other people for the sake of black prosperity.
